LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kroger plans to convert the vacant former Norton Immediate Care Center building at 2450 Bardstown Road into a wine and spirits shop that would complement its Highlands grocery store, according to Louisville Metro planning records.

The renovation will cost $135,000, according to an application submitted Jan. 29 to the Bardstown Road Overlay District. The building is 2,934 square feet. It is just south of the grocery store but not attached.

“To meet customer requests, Kroger does have interest in adding a wine and spirits shop in an existing building next to our Highlands grocery store," spokesman Tim McGurk said in an email. "This project is only in the planning stages and would have to be granted the appropriate licenses before being fully approved."

Kentucky law prevents grocery stores from selling wine and liquor, so many put liquor stores next door or sometimes in the same building but with separate entrances.
