Kentucky Senate passes 'Beer Bill'; Beshear plans to sign into law

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Craft beer brewers have won a victory in Frankfort, but it means Anheuser Busch could be forced to sell its Louisville distribution center.

Nicknamed "the Beer Bill," House Bill 168 passed the state Senate Wednesday and is on its way to Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear's desk. Beshear says he will sign it into law.

Craft beer makers argue the current system isn't fair and the bill allows an even playing field.

The bill requires all beer makers to use independent distributes, essentially the "middle man" in the state's three-tiered system.

Anheuser Bush released this statement: "We have been doing everything possible to protect our employees and our Kentucky business. This was always an unnecessary solution in search of a problem that didn't exist."
