LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Firefighters in New Albany scrambled to rescue a motorist who had driven into icy waters Friday morning, according to a press release.

It happened just after 8 a.m. on 7 Mile Lane, just a few miles from the Horseshoe Casino Riverboat in New Albany. According to the Lafayette Township Fire Protection District, firefighters from the New Chapel Fire Company requested assistance after the motorist drove into icy waters that covered the street.

As it turned out, according to the release, the New Chapel Fire Company was able to pull the driver out of the vehicle without assistance. That victim was checked out for injuries and hypothermia, but told responders that they were not injured and did not want to go to the hospital.

"The Lafayette Township Fie Protection District would like to remind everyone that flooded roads are still a big possibility," the release states. "The already saturated ground and the recent snow fall melt will increase this in the upcoming days. Please remember to NOT drive through a water covered road. It may be deeper than you think, flood your vehicle's engine and leave you stranded in a dangerous situation."
