Louisville City signs trialist, postpones preseason matchup with U of L

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- After just one preseason outing, Louisville City has found at least one addition to the roster as the club announced the signing of trialist and former Minnesota United player Nate Polak Friday afternoon.

Polak was drafted by the New York Red Bulls in 2012 but went unsigned by the club.

Polak went on to sign a contract with NASL side Minnesota United later that year. He played two seasons for the team before going on loan with USL side Oklahoma Energy in 2014.

“Nate has been in camp with us since last month and he's been impressive during this time,” head coach James O'Connor said. “With his goal-scoring ability and his past accomplishments, we are confident Nate will make an immediate impact with the squad.”

The forward began playing college soccer at Drake University before transferring Hastings College, where he won an NAIA national championship.

The Lincoln, Nebraska, native has been on trial with Louisville City during the preseason and is now officially part of the roster.

I am beyond excited for this next step in my career and look forward to helping Louisville City FC pursue a USL championship this season,” Polak said. “Everything about the club has been amazing since my arrival and the talent of this group of players has made for some really fun soccer. Good things lie ahead as we continue to improve and gel every day.”

The club announced the news after a 3-2 preseason win at Indiana University earlier in the week. Led by a pair of goals from forward Matt Fondy, the team crept ahead of IU on late goal from trialist Cameron Lancaster.

While the game against IU was able to be moved indoors to the school's football practice facility, Louisville City has had to cancel Sunday's preseason match at U of L due to conditions caused by snow. The game scheduled for Sunday March 8 against Louisville will be moved to a later date.

The team has two more preseason matches slated against UK and Lindsey Wilson College before the team's home opener on March 28 at Louisville Slugger Field.
