Taylorsville mom arrested after allegedly pouring boiling water on 11-year-old

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Taylorsville, Kentucky mother is facing serious charges after authorities say she intentionally poured boiling water on her 11-year-old son.

According to an arrest warrant, it happened on Jan. 14. The warrant states that 47-year-old Melissa Coulter, "violated KRS 508.100 when she intentionally caused or placed her 11-year-old son in a situation that may cause serious physical injury when she poured boiling water on his legs."

Her actions caused second degree burns to 6 percent of the boy's body, according to the arrest warrant.

The warrant was issued by the Spencer County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday, March 3, and she was taken into custody the following day. She is currently incarcerated at the Shelby County Detention Center, charged with second degree criminal abuse.
