Anthem 5K to take place as planned, despite winter weather

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The race will go on, despite this week's winter weather -- that's the word from organizers of the Anthem 5K.

Today, runners were able to pick up their packets for tomorrow's race. It will begin at the corner of E. Market Street and S. Brook Street at 8 a.m.

Almost 7,000 runners are registered for the 5K, which is the first leg of the Louisville Triple Crown of Running. Organizers say road crews have cleared the way for those taking part.

"We did have some hesitation, but mostly because of ice," explained Pru Radcliffe, manager of the Louisville Triple Crown of Running. "Because runners will run in snow, they'll run in rain and so forth, but we had to make sure the roads were mostly clear and the snow is pushed off to the side, which the city has done a great job doing."

If you are coming downtown for the event, you should arrive early. Some of the snow cleared from the roads was pushed into parking spaces, so it may be difficult to find parking.

If you haven't picked up your packet, you have until 7 p.m. tonight, or you can pick it up tomorrow between 6 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. Packet pick-up is in the lobby of Slugger Field.
