BOZICH | My weekly AP college basketball Top 25 ballot

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – This is the next-to-last ballot in the Associated Press college basketball poll, but it's likely the last one people will be fussing about because the conversation next Sunday night will turn to the NCAA Tournament draw.

Kentucky has gone coast-to-coast atop the poll this season. Duke, Virginia, Wisconsin and Arizona have hung around the top six most of the season, too.

Those are the four teams scrambling for the three remaining one-seeds for the NCAA Tournament.

And, no, I didn't keep Murray State on my ballot after the upset loss to Belmont.

1. Kentucky (31-0) – Georgia and Florida discovered what four teams on my ballot had already discovered – the Wildcats are the team to beat.

2. Duke (28-3) – Eleven game winning streak in the ACC with road wins at Virginia and North Carolina? I'm sold.

3. Virginia (28-2) – I didn't penalize the Cavaliers for losing a game they nearly won on the road Saturday.

4. Villanova (29-2) – The Wildcats have won 12 straight – nine by double figures. Hmm.

5. Wisconsin (28-3) – The Badgers were supposed to win the Big Ten with ease – and they did.

6. Arizona (29-3) – Talk about winning a conference title with ease, the Wildcats won the Pac-12 by three games.

7. Notre Dame (26-5) – The Irish will have to prove they can survive the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament. Hasn't happened since 2003.

8. Gonzaga (30-2) – The Zags have not done enough to earn a one-seed next Sunday.

9. Northern Iowa (30-3) – Impressive comeback against Illinois State made the Panthers the surprise winner of the Missouri Valley Tournament. Beware.

10. Kansas (24-7) – The best team in what everybody says was the best league, but I'm not sure what that means this season.

11. Maryland (26-5) – Nobody expected the Terps to finish second in the Big Ten in their first season in the league.

12. Iowa State (23-8) – The Cyclones lost to Maryland back in November.

13. Wichita State (28-4) – I like their guards and you know what they say about guards this month.

14. Louisville (24-7) – The Cards look like a four-seed in the NCAA Tournament, but can play their way to a three in Greensboro at the ACC Tournament.

15. Baylor (23-8) – Baylor-West Virginia sounds like a Big 12 Tournament game to watch.

16. Oklahoma (21-9) – The Sooners guard. That will make them a legitimate threat this month.

17. Utah (23-7) – The Utes stumbled to three losses in their last five games.

18. North Carolina (21-10) – Plenty of talent here, but there's something missing with the Tar Heels. This group should have five or six losses, not 10.

19. Davidson (23-6) – This Bob McKillop guy can really coach.

20. Arkansas (24-7) – I could see the Razorbacks in the Sweet Sixteen – or gone after one game.

21. SMU (24-6) – The champions of the American Athletic Conference. Go crazy, Dallas, go crazy.

22. West Virginia (23-8) – Does Bob Huggins have one more March run in him?

23. Michigan State (21-10) – The Spartans play smart and play hard. As usual.

24. Georgetown (20-9) – The Hoyas finished tied for second in the Big East – and are one of the teams that beat Villanova.

25. Boise State (24-7) – I heard several complaints that I snubbed the Broncos last week. They were right. Snub corrected.

Dropped out: Murray State, Butler, Tulsa.

Newcomers: Michigan State, Georgetown, Boise State.
