Bardstown Road motel under scrutiny for violations at health board meeting

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- After failing health inspections, a troubled motel on Bardstown Road is under the microscope.

During a hearing Tuesday, health officials testified about violations at the Economy Inn, from rodent infestations to missing smoke detectors.

Owners say they're working to correct problems, while looking at bids to remodel the motel.

But the motel's permit could be suspended.

Within five days, a health officer will release a recommendation on any action the health department should take.

Three brothers operate the motel and another brother who owns a different local hotel is stepping in to help them turn things around.

"We've neglected it, we realize the problems, now we're going to try to solve them -- not try, we will solve them," the owners' brother Tony Yaldo said.

Police have also described the Economy Inn as a "hot spot" for crime.
