Downtown Louisville restaurants prepare to capitalize on Prince, Maroon 5

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Five big name downtown Louisville concerts are scheduled for one weekend -- and local restaurants are planning to cash in on the fervor.

"Large order, food orders...all our suppliers, Buffalo Trace, Fireball...they're all bringing a lot of stuff in for us," said Brett Watson, general manager of Manny & Merle.

Manny & Merle is gearing up for what's expected to be a busy weekend. Local businesses are singing a happy tune over the big-name concerts.

"We know as of right now in the past year our sales have been up 20 percent over the year each month," said Watson. "I estimate that they will probably double that over this weekend, but we only have so much capacity, so people will be lined up out the door."

Ben Barker is the General Manager of Troll Pub Under the Bridge. He says every time there is an event at the Yum! Center, he makes sure there is more staff and a lot more food to handle the huge increase in customers.

"Prince is obviously a huge act, and maybe one of the last chances you get to see him," said Barker. "And then you stack Maroon 5 on top of that -- that's great for my business."

Prince sold out four concerts in minutes, scheduled at The Palace Saturday and Sunday night. It will be a homecoming for the drummer of Prince's 3RDEYEGIRL band. Hannah Ford Welton is a Louisville native.

Then, there's Maroon 5 playing at the KFC Yum! Center on Saturday, too.

"Anytime you have an event like Prince or Maroon 5, it brings people in from all over the place, not just from the Louisville area, but places like Lexington and Indianapolis and E-town," Barker said.

Next week will be even busier with the NCAA Division One Men's Basketball Championship.

"My day has been full today just working on NCAA," Barker said. "The tournament here this year and next year, it is going to be the biggest of the year for us, maybe the biggest week that this business will ever have."

On Saturday night, the Maroon 5 concert is at the KFC Yum!! Center. Prince will have four concerts at The Palace.
