LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police say they've arrested a man after he fired a shotgun into the ceiling of his apartment, causing buckshot to enter the apartment above him, endangering the lives of a woman and three children.
According to an arrest warrant, it happened Feb. 26, at the apartment of 30-year-old David Sean Yates on Springfield Drive, near the intersection of St. Andrews Church Road and Arnoldtown Road.
Police say Yates told them he was carrying the shotgun into another room and pulled the trigger, "believing the shotgun was unloaded."
It wasn't, according to the arrest report.
Instead, police say the gun fired a shot into the ceiling, causing buckshot to go into the upstairs apartment. At the time, a woman was in the upstairs apartment with her three children. Police say no one was injured, but there was damage to the ceiling of Yates' apartment, as well as both the floor and ceiling of the upstairs apartment.
A warrant was issued for Yates' arrest on Monday, March 9, and he was taken into custody on Wednesday, March 11. He's charged with four counts of first degree wanton endangerment.
