JCPS students compete in robotics competition

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Some JCPS students put their robot building skills to good use Saturday.

The Robo Rumble Competition was held Saturday, all part of the district's "Computer Education Support Unit."

The event allows the kids to showcase what they've learned in the STEM program, combining science, tecnology, engineering and math.

The students designed and built their own robots.

Each one had different tasks, including picking items up or fighting other robots.

"The kids have an opportunity to showcase their talents," technology specialist Pam Caudill said. "It's a place for those kids who don't have a niche anywhere, so it's wonderful to see these kids be so engaged and so active and so excited about the robots."

Only 14 teams signed up for the first competition five years ago.

This year the event had more than 160.
