Better Business Bureau warns against driveway repair scam

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Scott County Indiana Sheriff's office says it's investigating reports of several men running a driveway repair scam.

In each case, the price was set beforehand, but the men then demanded far more money when they were finished.

One of the suspects, 26-year-old Percy Collins, was attempting to cash a victim's check when he was taken into custody.

In this instance, police say the homeowner was told she owed $300, but was billed more than $3,000 for the work.

Collins is charged with home improvement fraud and theft.

The Better Business Bureau says scams like this are common.

"Anytime, if they want to pay you up front, don't do it. Be leery of these types of operations if they want to, it's often poor quality work so you will want to check them out," said Charlie Mattingly with the Better Business Bureau.

If you feel you've been a victim of this type of fraud you're asked to call the Scott County Sheriff's Office at (812) 752-8400.
