Kentucky faithful turn Yum! Center blue for UK shoot around

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A day before Kentucky embarks on its quest to complete an unbeaten season with an NCAA championship, Big Blue Nation flooded into the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville -- just to watch practice.

Holding signs above their heads and leading the crowd in cheers, Big Blue fans are getting all riled up before their game against Hampton.

Wednesday night, the basketball team held an open practice at the KFC Yum! Center. Almost every seat filled with blue.

“It's a once in a lifetime thing, we're going 40-0 baby. Number 1,” said UK fan Mike Blair.

For the littlest of fans they couldn't express how excited they were to get out of school and come straight to the practice.

“Ummm out of my mind!” one kid said.

Another explained, “I had a boring class and I was thinking about this during the boring class.”

One kid summed it up: “We're really happy, we feel really lucky.”

And even though it was just a practice, the fan base came out in force.

“There's not another fan base like Big Blue Nation. That's it, we're the best at it,” said Chris Young.

“It's pretty, pretty good even though it's just practice against each other, but it's just awesome,” said Kevin Thomas.

So from layups, to free throws, to three pointers, and dunk, big blue nation believes their team can and will go undefeated the whole season.

“We're both diehard Kentucky fans and we've watched them go from 10-0, 20-0, 30-0 and every time it gets more and more exciting so we're waiting on the 40-0,” said Rose Hibbs.

If that happens, pictures from this practice could become history with Kentucky winning its nineth NCAA Championship. For that reason, sleep was sacrificed for some UK fans.

I worked all night, the third shift. I haven't been to sleep yet. I left straight from work to come here, so I've been here, I've been up, it's worth it,” said Blair.

The Kentucky Wildcats will battle it out against the Hampton Pirates at the Yum! Center Thursday night at 9:50 p.m.

Earlier Wednesday, Rick Pitino dropped his opinion on the overwhelming favorites for the national title, saying his 1996 national championship team was better
