Volunteers send food and medicine overseas to help fight Ebola

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Louisville's Liberian community partnered with several non-profit organizations, including Supplies Overseas, to send the items to Africa on Saturday.

It's an emergency shipment, meant to help people dealing with the Ebola outbreak and civil war in Liberia.

Volunteers packed a 40-foot container full of food, medicine and tools that can help make water cleaner.

Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer congratulated the groups on their efforts Saturday.

"A lot of people are always talking, or telling me what to do," he said. "And there's very few people that step up and actually do it themselves. And this is really what citizenship is all about, regardless of where you live, but especially in this country, and showing that you care and that you're going to do."

Kids Against Hunger and Water With Blessings were some of the other partners who helped to make the shipment possible.
