Shepherdsville City Council looks to boost tax revenue with new land

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The City of Shepherdsville wants to annex land currently in the jurisdiction of the Southeast Bullitt Fire Department.

On Monday night, the Shepherdsville City Council heard the first reading of three proposals to annex the unincorporated land.

It consists of three different plots of land located along I-65 and totals more than 430 acres.

Councilman Larry Hatfield says annexing the land would increase Shepherdsville's property taxes and generate further revenue for the city when future developers tap into the new sewer line.

If approved, fire protection would come from Shepherdsville instead of Southeast Bullitt.

Southeast Bullitt says it won't fight the annexation despite the potential lost revenue.

The second reading is on April 13th and the council is expected to vote on that day.
