LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- One person was killed and another person was injured in a crash involving an SUV and a tractor-trailer
According to a news release from Floyd County police, it happened sometime before 9:30 p.m. Monday at the intersection of US 150 at Paoli Pike. When first responders arrived at the scene, they determined that the driver of the SUV was dead, and that the passenger had life-threatening injuries.
Preliminary investigation by the Floyd County Combined Accident Reconstruction Team indicates the tractor-trailer, which was driven by Gary Green of Mountain View Arkansas, was turning into Mt. Saint Francis from westbound US 150.
The semi had an oversized load of steel I-beams that extended past the rear of the trailer.
A maroon Dodge Nitro, driven by Sean Ford of Greenville Indiana, was traveling on the inside westbound lane on US 150. The semi made a left turn and the I-beam extended into the inside westbound lane that the Dodge was traveling in.
The Dodge slammed into the I-beam causing fatal injuries to Mr. Ford. The front seat passenger, who was the 15 year old daughter of Mr. Ford suffered life threatening injuries and was transported to University of Louisville Hospital.
The driver of the semi was uninjured.
The investigation is still in the early stages but alcohol, drugs, and speed do not appear to be a factor in the crash.
The investigation is ongoing.
