Indiana Senator Dan Coats says he won't run for re-election
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- U.S. Senator Dan Coats will not run for re-election in 2016.
The Indiana senator is saying goodbye to Washington.
"This was not an easy decision," Coats said. "While I believe I am well positioned to run a successful campaign for another six-year term, I have concluded the time has come to pass this demanding job to the next generation of leaders."
Coats served in Congress from 1981 to 1999.
He was then named U.S. ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany.
He returned to the Senate in 2011. Now he says he is ready to retire.
Coats say he looks forward to his continued engagement in Indiana in many other ways.
