New Walmart set to open Wednesday in Shepherdsville

SHEPHERDSVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Walmart will open Wednesday in Bullitt County, which some say will bring more business into the area.

"We're just putting the finishing touches on the store," said manager Scott Sloan Tuesday. "Making sure everything's right for our customers."

The new Walmart sits just off I-65.

"Conestoga Parkway has been an explosion area for growth and new businesses," said Bullitt County Economic Development Authority Executive Director John Snider. "There's supposed to be a couple other developments going in soon there. I think Walmart gets up and running, you're going to see some other restaurants go in there as well as some other facilities."

Traffic flow is expected to pick up once the store opens, which is a plus according to the manager of nearby clothing store Cato Fashions.

"We're right in the path," said store manager Janice Pridgen. "We're looking forward to the traffic and everybody passing our store at Cato's and stopping in and shopping."

Walmart officials say they hired about 220 new employees to work at the Walmart, many coming from the Bullitt County area.

"We've been lucky," Sloan said. "We've been able to get associates from all different kinds of walks of life, different backgrounds. We've got people that transferred from warehouse work, retired workers from Ford, I could go on and on. It's an exciting group of people. They're super excited to greet the customer tomorrow."

The Walmart Supercenter is set to open Wednesday morning at 7:30.
