LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Costco plans to build a 153,000-square-foot store and fueling station at the former Showcase Cinemas property on Bardstown Road, according to a plan filed Thursday with Louisville Metro government.

It would be the second Coscto in Louisville. The members-only retailer has a store in the Old Brownsboro Crossing development in eastern Jefferson County.

The old movie theater site at 3406-3408 Bardstown Road has been vacant for years.

Costco filed an application Thursday for a zoning change to allow for the store. The site plan shows the store at the back of the narrow, 19-acre site. 636 parking spaces sit between the store and a gas station and outlot for other retail, both fronting on Bardstown Road.

Attached to the store will be a liquor store with a separate entrance, as required by Kentucky law. The plan also shows an optical store near the front entrance.

The site was acquired by Playa Plaza, a company led by Mark Blieden and William Wagner of Louisville commercial real estate firm Kaden Companies, last September for $3.3 million.
