Grayson Co. Sheriff prepared to post names of people with active warrants

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - The Grayson County Sheriff says his department will start releasing names of people with active warrants on April 13.

But before then, he's asking people to turn themselves in.

"We're looking at cost-saving measures here," Sheriff Norman Chaffins said. "We're looking at some of these papers that we've attempted to serve three, four, five times ... even more. Some of those papers have been up there for a couple of years."

So the law enforcement agency is going to do something new.

Chaffins says come mid-April, his department will start posting names.

"They'll be warrants, bench warrants and even criminal summons," he said.

He plans to use the department's Facebook page and the local media to get the word out.

He says mug shots may be posted too.

"We're going to eventually revamp our website to where people can search someone's name to check if they have a warrant on them to give them the opportunity to come in."

Chaffins says the best option is for people to come forward.

He's asking them to do so before their names are published, in hopes this new effort will cut down on the fuel and deputy hours spent trying to serve active warrants.

"That way it'll give deputies a little bit more time to do extra patrol on some of these roads that we get complaints on, to look for drunk drivers and traffic safety check points.

"It just frees up our guys a little bit more to do some law enforcement activities as well community oriented projects."
