LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Millions of dollars is being used to help adults suffering from asthma.

It's a disease often associated with children that causes coughing, wheezing and shortness of breath.

Now a $2.3 million grant from the National Institutes of Health will help University of Louisville researchers.

They will take the first comprehensive look at the triggers of asthma in adults over the age of 60.

The study will look at the many causes, including personal and environmental influences.

"If you can prevent it, you can prevent hospitalizations that occur and costs that occur and increase quality of care and the quality of a person's life," said Dr. David Dunn, U of L's Vice President of Health Affairs.

The goal is to help seniors better manage their symptoms and reduce trips to the emergency room.
