LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A collaborative project that hopes to bring people and investors to southwest Louisville was launched Monday. Mayor Greg Fischer said the South Points Scenic Area is the result of six years of hard work by various southwest Louisville leaders.

The project aims to highlight areas of interest and promote economic development in the region using a new printed map and interactive website.

"We want more people to come out here -- bike, walk -- and see the things we have to offer and be in nature," said Vince Jarboe of the Southwest Dream Team.

Jarboe said economic development is lacking in south Louisville, as many choose to build downtown or in eastern Jefferson County.

"We want more people to come, and with that, we hope we get more economic development," said Jarboe. "Retailers will say we didn't know there was this many people showing up at these places and will say lets get more retail."

The main part of the project helps you plan day-trips to the region using a website and interactive map. The website allows visitors to pick an area in Southwest Louisville and see the attractions there, or use the menu to pick from activities.

Bennett Knox with Jefferson Memorial Forest says the South Points Scenic Area will give the park more exposure not only with the website, but with hard copy maps put out at local hotels, and signs on the interstate.

"Our only sign was you had to get off  I-65 so we've missed all that traffic," Knox said. "We had a website which was great but we're excited to tap into some other forms of marketing."
