JCPS unveils citizen transparency website

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- During Monday night's board meeting, JCPS unveiled the district's new citizen transparency website.

The tool is meant to allow community members to monitor how the district is spending money.

“The public is entitled to know how Jefferson County Public Schools spends each and every taxpayer dollar,” says Superintendent Hargens. “We hope the Citizen Transparency Website will help answer frequently asked questions and demystify the JCPS budget.”

The website is a response to the 2014 management review by Kentucky Auditor Adam Edelen, in which the auditor suggested “JCPS offer consistent district financial data to better assist board members.”

District officials decided they would offer the information to anyone who wanted access to it. JCPS says the site will be updated weekly and offer content “unprecedented” in Kentucky.

The public will be able to search things like employee earnings, vendor payments, total expenditures and other transactions. They will also be able to fully explore the district's $1.3 billion budget.

The website, which cost approximately $28,000, was developed by Tyler Technology. The roll out of the website was delayed several months due to some issues during development
