Changes coming to Louisville Metro Corrections XJail System
LOUISVILLE, Ky (WDRB) -- XJail allows you to look up offender information online but soon you'll be able to sign up to be notified if an inmate is released.
Metro Corrections launched XJail in September of 2013.
The $1.5 million online system allows you to search Jefferson County inmates by name or inmate number.
If they're still in jail, you can see their mug shot, bond amount, charge information and booking date and time, all from your computer.
"Right now, that data base won't tell someone if an inmate is on work release or HIP," said Mark Bolton, Dir. of Metro Corrections.
Bolton says upgrades are on the way and he says it won't cost the jail any extra because it's including in routine maintenance.
"We are moving toward programming our system to put that capability in place," Bolton told WDRB.
That means if there's an inmate you want to keep tabs on, you can sign up to receive notifications if that inmate gets out of jail or is released on home incarceration.
"I think it's important. I know state corrections does that on individuals who are on parole or probation. We think that it's just another element in terms of transparency with the public and ensuring that that information is made available for those who want to check and see," he said.
Bolton says they're working on the changes now and they should be in effect by June 15th. You can access XJail here.
