New Kentucky license plate encourages organ donations

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - A new Kentucky license plate is focused on getting people to help save lives.

The Donate for Life plate was issued for the first time in Kentucky on Wednesday.

It was unveiled at the Jefferson County Clerk's Office on Dixie Highway.

The license plate is meant to support and encourage organ donation.

Organ recipients, their families, and donor families worked for three years to get the plate into production.

"Organ donation is very important. It's not scary and it's not a bad thing. Even though you're losing your loved one, you're giving a family the gift of life. The gift to live longer and make a difference in this world," said Megan Morrison, who received a donated liver.

April is Donate Life month.

People who are interested in becoming organ donors can register at any driver's license branch in Kentucky.
