LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) --  Police say two men were shot in an officer involved shooting on Clifton Avenue near the Kroger on Brownsboro Road.

Major Endora Davis with Metro Corrections confirms a Metro Corrections officer with the HIP Unit (Home Incarceration Program) was involved in the shooting.

"Yes, I was very worried, I didn't know what was going on," said Kroger shopper Jade Saling.

Thursday afternoon shoppers walked out to the parking lot to find several police cars and dozens of officers on scene.

"And I looked around, saw more lights and I looked at my phone and it said police involved shooting at Brownsboro road, so I knew that was right here," said Saling.

Police say two men were shot by an HIP officer. According to officials that officer was assisted by an LMPD Flex Unit officer when trying to apprehend a wanted suspect.

"The HIP officer was able to develop information that led him to believe that the wanted suspect would be in this area," said LMPD Spokesperson Alicia Smiley. "When the suspect apparently drove in the direction of the HIP officer, leading him to fire several shots, those shots did strike the driver as well as a front seat passenger."

Both men were taken to University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police say another passenger in the back seat of the car was not shot.

The officers involved were not hurt.

Officials were not able to release any further information regarding the names of the people involved or why the suspect was wanted.

Metro Corrections is expected to make an official comment on Friday. Meanwhile, the LMPD Public Integrity Unit is investigating.
