LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville man has been arrested in connection with a brutal assault that took place at a Dollar General store last month.

It happened on March 25 at the Dollar General on Outer Loop, near Fegenbush Lane.

Police say 34-year-old William A. Smith Jr. was in the store when he picked up a cloth hat and hid it in his pocket. A female employee confronted him, and when the store manager came around the corner to see what was going on, police say Smith punched him in the face multiple times.

The manager sustained a broken nose, a black eye, a busted lip, as well as bruises to the face, upper body and shoulder.

The incident was captured on surveillance video.

Smith, along with an unidentified white female, ran away. He was later identified by a witness, and police issued a warrant for his arrest on March 31. He was taken into custody on Thursday, April 2.

Smith is charged with first degree robbery and second degree assault.
