LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Louisville Metro Department of Corrections has identified the corrections officer involved in two shootings Thursday afternoon, near the Kroger on Brownsboro Road.

According to a spokesperson for the department, the officer's name is John Hagan, of the Home Incarceration Unit.

Hagan shot 31-year-old Michael Anthony Thornton, a suspect he was trying to apprehend, as well as a second person who has not been identified. Thornton was allegedly wanted on multiple warrants, including escape from HIP.

Authorities say Hagan shot Thornton after he turned his vehicle "in an aggressive manner" toward the corrections officer, who was on foot. A second person in the vehicle was also shot. That person suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Thornton remains at University Hospital, and is expected to face additional charges, according to a news release.

Hagan has been with the department for 14 years. He is currently on administrative leave, and the Louisville Metro Police Public Integrity Unit is investigating.
