LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - A nine-year-old girl was killed after being hit by a vehicle, according to officials.

The accident happened on around 8 p.m. Saturday night along Cypress Cove Drive.

According to police, the child was leaving a playground near the Bardstown Forest Apartments when she was hit.

The child, who family tell us is Emmy Kuwa, was taken to Kosair Children's Hospital where she died.

Her family from the Sudan says people constantly drive way too fast near their apartment complex near Buechel Bank Road. They hope this reminds them to slow down.

"They play like other kids, what's the difference?" Emmy's uncle Eisa Nasir said. "All kids ... they're playing around and running around, you know, but us as adults, we need to take responsibility so if you see something like this you need to slow the car down."

Emmy's family tells WDRB News she was a fourth grader at Price Elementary School.

The LMPD Traffic Unit is investigating the accident.
