One person killed, one seriously hurt in Floyd Co. crash

GREENVILLE, Ind. (WDRB) -- Police say alcohol and speed may have been factors in a crash that killed a passenger and left the driver seriously hurt near Greenville, Ind., Wednesday.

Casey Becht, 32, of New Albany, Ind., died of his injuries, Floyd Co. deputy coroner Stefanie Ziepolt said.

The crash occurred about 8:38 p.m. in the 6600-block of Borden Road, east of U.S. 150, authorities said.

The driver, Christopher Riddle, 30, of Floyds Knobs, Ind., apparently lost control; his truck left the road on a curve and began to skid. The passenger side struck a tree, said Ofc. Brad Scott of the Floyd County Sheriff's Department. Riddle suffered "life-threatening" injuries, Scott said from the scene Wednesday night.

Officers want to confirm if alcohol contributed to the crash, Scott said. Accident investigators were still at the scene early Thursday morning.
