LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police have released the identities of the officers who were involved in a fatal shooting Wednesday night. Police say Officers Rondall Carpenter and Zachary Cooke have been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation into the incident.

The shooting happened on Flicker Road near Lassiter Middle School, though LMPD says the shooting did not occur on school property. Officers were dispatched on a call of shots fired in the area of Outer Loop and New Cut Road.

Police say the officers confronted a man with a weapon, who fired at them. The officers shot back at the man and killed him, according to LMPD.

Officer Rondall Carpenter was also involved in a shooting last October when a fleeing suspect fired shots at Carpenter and Officer Skylar Graudick. According to police, the officers had been pursuing a vehicle that pulled away from a traffic stop. When the vehicle stopped again, one occupant got out and began running while firing shots at the officers, who returned fire.

LMPD spokesperson Alicia Smiley says the Public Integrity Unit has finished its investigation into that shooting. She says the case is now before the Commonwealth's Attorneys Office for review.
