LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - A Harrison County man is accused of going on a drug binge and shooting his son.

Rocky Byrd, 54, was arrested Saturday after his son showed up at the hospital.

Police say early Saturday morning, Byrd shot his 24-year-old son, Tad Byrd, in the left hip and forearm.

It happened at their home on Perseverance Chapel Road.

Officers went to the home, where the father surrendered.

"Our information from witnesses and a post-miranda statement from Mr. Byrd that he was on a six-day meth binge and was heavily under the influence of meth," Harrison County Sheriff Rodney Seelye said.

Byrd is charged with pointing a loaded firearm, possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon and criminal recklessness with a firearm.

He could face more charges.

His son is at University Hospital and is expected to recover.
