LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police say a man who was already in jail after he shot a victim is now facing the charge of murder after that victim died.

According to an arrest report, the incident took place on April 9 on Huntington Park Drive, near Poplar Level Road. Police say 57-year-old Wayne L. Duke shot a man once and then fled the scene.

Duke was initially arrested and charged with first degree assault for shooting the victim, who was identified as 30-year-old Johnny Buckley Jr. by Deputy Coroner Rita Taylor.

Taylor said the cause of death was complications from a gunshot wound to the left leg. Buckley was pronounced dead on Friday evening at U of L Hospital.

After Buckley's death, Duke, who was already in jail on the assault charge, was charged with murder.
