LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police arrested a man Monday morning for stealing several thousand dollars from a liquor store where he worked.

Ali Al-Sheikh Hussain, 26, is accused of stealing $11,600 from National Liquors in Fairdale, according to the official warrant. Police allege Hussain took the money between Feb. 2 and Feb. 28, while he worked at the business.

Officials say Hussain stole the money while the store's owner was out of the country visiting a family member.

Upon returning home, police say the owner discovered that the money had not been deposited into a business account.

Police say Hussain was the only person working in the store. Hussain's brother was making deposits for the store's owner every few days, according to authorities.

Police records state that the store owner confronted Hussain. Officials say Hussain told the owner he would pay the money back.

Investigators say two weeks later Hussain told the owner he did not take any money and the owner should take him to court.

Hussain is charged with theft.
