Roughly 200 UK students briefly evacuated after gas lines ruptured

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Roughly 200 University of Kentucky students were briefly evacuated Monday morning after two gas lines were ruptured.

According to the University of Kentucky's Twitter page and the school's chief of police, the students were evacuated from the Woodland Glen housing complex off Oldham Court, near the area of the first gas line rupture. We're told that gas line was accidentally cut by a contractor.

Those students have since been allowed back into the building.

The Lexington Fire Department was on the scene to check buildings in the area.

A second ruptured gas line was in the area of Alumni Drive and Nicholasville Road. That rupture did not cause any evacuations.

UK Police tweeted just after 3 p.m. that all off-campus gas repairs are complete and roads are open, except for one lane on both Nicholasville Road and Alumni Drive that will remain closed for extended line repairs.

Columbia Gas was on the scene to perform repairs.
