LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – Heading into Louisville City FC's second home game at Louisville Slugger Field, the team seems to be coming together as much as promised during the preseason media day.

“I think we're all understanding the system coach [James] O'Connor is trying to put together, I think Thursday will be a good test for us,” said Captain Matt Fondy after a soggy practice Tuesday morning.

Even as rain poured down on the team's workout, the players maintained an intense and focused atmosphere while making jokes here and there.

At that preseason media day in March, players talked about how well the team was getting along and how quickly they bonded. “It's a good group,” Fondy said that day. “Hopefully we'll have a good product on the field.”

The team put in strong showings against Saint Louis and Richmond to start the season, topping Saint Louis in the club's home opener and drawing Richmond in the first away game.

As the team headed to Richmond, defender Sean Reynolds took over the USL's social media accounts and apparently picked up a fine for tweeting during team breakfast.

“I didn't know he was running the USL social media twitter page,” Fondy laughed after practice on Tuesday. “We have a fine system going and we're gonna have a party at the end of the year with all the money we make.”

The team set up the fine system as a way to hold each other accountable and have a bit of fun with it.

“It's just five bucks here and there, if you're late and stuff like that,” Fondy explained. “Everyone's having fun with it, you know, you see someone doing something, you're like ‘hey that's a fine' or ‘this is a fine'.”

In between the Richmond game and Thursday's face off with Rochester, City headed to SIUE for a friendly against the Cougars. Louisville fell 1-0 in a lightning-delayed match that ultimately took almost four hours to complete.

However, City heads into the second home match against Rochester on Thursday at Louisville Slugger Field undefeated in the team's two USL league outings. And Fondy seemed confident with the team's strategy and preparations.

“I thought we did well against Richmond, but we've had 10-11 days between Richmond and our next game on Thursday,” Fondy said. “We're all getting on the same page and I think we're ready to go.”
