Letter sent from Beth Barnes, director of the UK School of Journalism on shooting death of Jonathan Krueger
As you may have already heard, we lost a member of the school's family this morning. ISC major Jonathan Krueger was killed in a shooting near campus.
Jonathan was an account management path student. He was very active with the Kernel; he was photo editor this year and was to be the student advertising manager next year. He participated in last winter's London/Dublin study abroad course.
Those things can't begin to describe who Jonathan was as a person, a friend, and a student. I know many of you knew him well and feel his loss terribly.
The UK Counseling Center in Frazee Hall, next to the Student Center, has counselors on duty today until 4:30 p.m. They will have someone available to talk with you at any point, and have asked me to urge you to not hesitate to stop by to talk. Their main advice to me was that it is better to talk to someone and share your feelings sooner rather than later. The Counseling Center can also be reached by phone at 859-257-8701.
I often tell prospective students and their parents that one of the things I like best about our school and college is that we're a smallish, closely knit family within the bigger university. I hope that as we mourn Jonathan, we can draw on that closeness and help one another cope with this terrible loss.
Please take care of yourselves, and each another.
