LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- It's not too often that you do something so rare that all of baseball stops to take notice.

Congratulations Corey Ray. The University of Louisville sophomore outfielder was the toast of the game Saturday night for that rarest of baseball feats: A straight steal of home that won the game in the ninth inning.

MLB.com writer Mike Bertha called the walk-off steal of home, “the coolest thing that can happen in a live sporting event, short of maybe an alien invasion.”

Watch the video -- with U of L announcer Sean Moth's stirring call -- here.

U of L is ranked No. 3 in the nation and is generating plenty of positive headlines anyway. It swept a double-header from Wake Forest Saturday — and a three-game series.

But this is the kind of viral accomplishment that can lift you into a higher level of the sports world's consciousness.

First and foremost, he rolled in at No. 7 in ESPN's Top Plays on SportsCenter.

Jody Demling of CardinalAuthority.com has a good piece on the game and its dramatic finish. You can read it by clicking here.

Ray told Demling after the game, “I was begging coach to give it to me. I knew (Wake Forest pitcher Will Craig) was slow from the wind up and he wasn't even looking at me. I knew if I got down the line and a good enough lead, I would be fine.”

In the hours after, the clip got nods on social media from Fox Sports 1 and SportsCenter. The video also has been shared on Yahoo! Sports and a host of other national sites and, of course, Reddit.

The Cards (30-9) stole 17 bases in the three-game series against Wake Forest. They are 19-2 in the ACC and running away with the Atlantic Division.
