LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Get your phones ready: Churchill Downs is helping Derby racegoers make calls, texts and posts easier.

Verizon Wireless has beefed up its network in and around Churchill Downs for this year's Kentucky Derby.

Verizon representatives say 12 small units installed on light poles around the track will allow Oaks and Derby guests to share messages, photos and video with ease.

The improvements come after major system upgrades last year that resulted in a more-than 200 percent increase in traffic over the previous year.
