LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - The man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend and consuming her body parts is now facing another charge.

Prosecutors are adding a count of rape against Joseph Oberhansley, after getting back lab results.

He was arrested in Sept. 2014 after Tammy Jo Blanton was found dead inside her Jeffersonville home.

Clark County officials are seeking the death penalty against Oberhansley. They say adding the rape charge makes their case stronger.

"Due to this rape charge being filed, I did amend the death penalty request and added rape," said Clark County Prosecutor Jeremy Mull. "If the jury were to find that indeed this rape did occur in the commission of the murder, that would be a valid basis for the imposition of the death penalty."

Oberhansley is also charged with murder and burglary.

A trial date is expected to be set by the end of the month.
