Louisville-native crosses Boston Marathon finish line after losing leg in the 2013 bombing

Posted: Updated:
BOSTON, Mass. (WDRB) -- Cheers erupted on the finish line for a woman who lost her leg in the Boston Marathon bombing.

Louisville native Rebekah Gregory DiMartino wrote on her foundation Facebook page Monday morning--quote -- "This is the day I take my life back."  Doctors cleared her to run only the last three miles. As she crossed the finish line, Gregory-DiMartino collapsed and cried.

WDRB has followed her journey since the bombing from the fundraisers held here in her hometown to her wedding. She married fellow bombing survivor Pete DiMartino last summer.

She was one of the witnesses who testified at the trial of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.
