LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police say they've arrested a suspect who stabbed a victim several times in the back after that person failed to give him a cigarette.

According to an arrest report, the incident took place just before 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15.

Police say 31-year-old Skyler W. Wheeler was at the bus stop, when he asked the victim for a cigarette. When that person didn't give him one, police say Wheeler began punching the victim. Wheeler allegedly knocked the victim to the ground, and began kicking the victim. Then, police say, Wheeler pulled a knife and stabbed the victim several times in the back.

That person was taken to University Hospital. The status of that person is not known. An eyewitness identified Wheeler as the assailant, according to an arrest report.

On Monday, police say Wheeler turned himself in. When an officer searched Wheeler's left jacket pocket, that officer allegedly found an unmarked pill bottle containing nine prescription pills.

Wheeler was arrested and charged with first degree assault and having a prescription controlled substance that was not in its proper container.
