LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Bardstown police say a drug habit was the reason behind three bank robberies.

David Smith, 51, was arrested this morning after, police say, he robbed the Wilson and Muir bank on Culpepper and John Rowan Boulevard. Police found evidence with him, including loads of cash and a blue zip-up jacket and red bandana used in the robberies.

Smith confessed to Thursday's robbery and two other bank robberies on April 16 and March 13, according to police.

Police quickly worked to track down his red truck, seen on video for the first time today.

"We had more than enough to put all three of them on him and he apparently knew it," Bardstown Police Chief Rick McCubbin said. "Our evidence was overwhelming to the point that he did confess to all three of them to our detectives."

A passenger who was with Smith when he was arrested was questioned and released.
