LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Officials from the Harrison County Sheriff's Office in Indiana are investigating a murder-suicide.

Authorities say it happened on Otterbein Road in Laconia, Ind.

Investigators say 35-year-old Leah Gwin and Kenneth Gwin were involved and that four children were in the house at the time. At this point, deputies believe Kenneth Gwin shot and killed his wife and then turned the gun on himself.

“Not knowing that we could potentially have somebody still alive, we actually sent our team in immediately,” Harrison County Sheriff Rod Seelye said. "That's when they discovered both people were deceased.”

The sheriff's department says those four children are all ages 12 or under and were able to escape to a neighbor's home where law enforcement was called.

“The calls did come from a neighbor,” Sheriff Seelye said. “The children fled the house and went to the neighbors ... The neighbors were very cooperative of course EMS and fire responded as well.”

The Harrison County Sheriff says they've responded to that house multiple times for verbal arguments, none of which were physical.

“We have responded to the house for verbal domestics before,” Sheriff Seelye said. “Recently we had to actually transport her and her two children away from the home but there had never been any indication of violence.”

The children will now be placed in the custody of other family members.
