LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - One Louisville girl is stepping up to the challenge to make sure kids in the community have something to eat.

Olivia Allen, 10, decided to set up a food drive Saturday as part of Mayor Greg Fischer's "Give a Day" service initiative.

She worked along side her classmate, Mary Kirkland, at First Choice Market.

The two are collecting items for Dare To Care's Backpack Buddies program, which helps feed children over the weekend.

"We've gotten a couple items, and it's going pretty good," Kirkland said.

"She had us bring in a wheelbarrow because people from my neighborhood gave her bags," Allen added.

The girls will turn the food into Dare to Care on April 30.

If you'd like to help out, you can take donations to the food bank at 5803 Fern Valley Road.
