Yogi Ferrell to return to Indiana for senior season

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Indiana University made official Sunday what many had expected earlier in the weekend: Yogi Ferrell will be returning to school for his senior basketball season.

Ferrell was sixth in scoring in the Big Ten last season, averaging 16.3 points per game.

He has also made a 3-pointer in 65 consecutive games, the longest active streak in the country.

"Like several other student-athletes in the game of basketball, I have considered the option of leaving college early to join the professional ranks,” Ferrell said in a press release.

“I have considered many factors, including my family, my education, the game I love and my goals in life. I would like to thank my family and friends, Coach (Tom) Crean and his staff, my academic advisor, Marni Mooney and my teammates for their contributions to my decision-making process.”

A native of Indianapolis, Ferrell is 22nd in school history in career points, sixth in assists and fourth in 3-pointers.

“We will always support Yogi in his career and life paths, and returning to Indiana affords him an opportunity to leave an indelible mark in the proud history of the Hoosier program,” Crean said.

“More importantly, he will earn an IU degree to carry with him the rest of his life. His continued growth and development on the court will provide him longevity at the next level and a bright future.”

Returning several key players form a 2015 NCAA Tournament team, the Hoosiers are projected to be a top-15 team when the season begins in the fall.
