Murder victim's loved ones: Suspect was longtime family friend

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WDRB) - Police say Marvin Davey, 51, was dragged outside of his van from Charlestown Pike in Jeffersonville to west Louisville.

They say Jesse Williams was behind the wheel.

"It was unbelievable," Davey's aunt, Linda Russell, said.

Davey's family members say they've known Williams for years. The two families used to live in the same neighborhood in Jeffersonville.

"Jesse used to come 'round us ever since he was young," said Davey's uncle Wilbur Davey. "We used to live right down the street from each other. His auntie lived over on the other side of us, next door, ya know?"

Wilbur Davey says he talked to Williams a few weeks before the murder.

"We talked," he said. "I didn't see nothing out of the ordinary."

Officials say Davey was found dead at Magnolia and Hazel Streets in Louisville on April 18. Williams was arrested less than a week later.

Police say the two men were fighting in Indiana and Williams stole money from Davey.

During the fight, investigators say Davey got tangled in a seat belt and Williams drove off with him outside of the car.

"Every emotion that you could ever think of, it was there," Russell said. "We just couldn't believe he did such a horrible thing."

Williams is charged with murder, robbery and tampering with physical evidence.

Davey's loved ones say they still don't understand why murder was necessary. They say Davey had health problems and could have easily been overpowered and left alive.

"We always thought the kidney trouble would take him. We never thought he would go like this," Wilbur Davey said.

We're told the two families haven't talked since this happened.

"I know they're hurting just as bad as we are," Russell said. "Because no one wins here. We've lost. They've lost. So they're hurting too."

Williams is being held at Metro Corrections on a $500,000 full cash bond. He's due in court May 5.
