Cinco de Mayo celebrations mark the end of Kentucky Derby season

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - It's a celebration marking the end of Kentucky Derby season.

Although it was two days early, Cinco de Mayo Celebrations were held at 4th Street Live as the last Kentucky Derby Festival Event of the year.

The family-friendly festivities included face-painting, a pinata competition, dance performances, caricature portraits and even a battle of Latino bands.

"As you can see there's a lot of energy, a lot of excitement, and all of us Latinos are very passionate," said Ben Ruiz of the Louisville Latino Council.

The fiesta also hosted games for children with the chance to win prizes.

Ruiz expects the event to grow every year, which he says will always be held the Sunday after Derby.
