Louisville agency recognized for economic development efforts

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - An economic development trade publication is giving Louisville recognition for its work to bring jobs and business investments to the city.

Louisville Forward, the city agency created last year by Mayor Greg Fischer, was named one of the top 10 economic development groups of 2014 by Site Selection magazine.

Fischer and the Louisville Forward staff celebrated Monday with a drink at Copper and Kings, the new brandy distillery in Butchertown.

It's been almost a year since Fischer ended a contract with Greater Louisville Inc., which is the city's chamber of commerce, bringing all economic development efforts under one roof.

"We have two big goals we work on every day--raising the median wage across the city and growing the number of high wage jobs. To accomplish those big audacious goals, we focus on a cluster strategy," said Mary Ellen Wiederwohl, a spokesperson for Louisville Forward.

That means the organization focuses on a cluster of business areas.

The specific areas are advanced manufacturing, e-commerce, food and beverage, business services and lifelong wellness and aging care.
