Jeffersonville man accused of killing ex-girlfriend, eating body parts talks over judge in court

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WDRB) --The Jeffersonville man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend and consuming her body parts cursed and made outbursts in court Monday.

Joseph Oberhansley had no qualms about speaking over the judge and attorneys. He was notified of the new rape charge that has been filed against him, but then said he has too much honor and integrity and is too handsome to have committed the rape.He was arrested in Sept. 2014 after Tammy Jo Blanton was found dead inside her Jeffersonville home.

Oberhansley says he is a righteous man and at one point in court started talking off-topic about Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the Moon.

His attorneys say Oberhansley has mental deterioration.

He asked to be put in with the general population instead of solitary confinement, but that request was denied by the judge. The judge did order that his placement in the jail be reviewed.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.

His trial date is set for Aug. 2, 2016, to give more time for defense attorneys to gather his files from out of state.
